Golf Instruction Video #1 of 3: You see golf pros often play fade and draw golf shots during tournaments to achieve a more desirable result with the golf ball. How do they do that? There are different philosophies of instruction and you'll have to decide which one you like. I personally like the way Jack Nicklaus Teaches it. If you have a good golf swing and can hit the golf ball straight already, the easiest way to hit a fade or a draw is by simply opening the golf club face or closing the golf club face. This golf instruction video shows how to pick a target line, setup for a golf shot and then execute it correctly.
Consideration:
1: The more a club face is lofted, the less sidespin is applied. Very little sidespin is applied when opening the clubface of an 8 iron or higher for example. The ball just goes higher.
2: The less a clubface is lofted, the more sidespin is applied. Your driver has the leasts loft and the most ability to spin the ball sideways. When hitting a fade which requires opening the clubface, a 3 iron will apply more sidespin than an open clubface 7 iron.

Yeah dude I agree, people that use that dude’s diagram usually have a bad grip. To hit a fade you must start the golf swing OUT in front of the body.

Yeah I think your method would definitely produce more accurate targeting for most people. I just find that changing my swing is the easiest for me personally, and it’s more fun.
Good video though, really makes it clear for those who don’t already understand it.

That’s another method that works. I can control the amount of draw/fade more accurately using the methods in this video than changing my swing and swinging out to in or in to out and delaying release with a fade or releasing early during a draw.

I prefer to draw the ball by simply swinging with an “in to out” path and releasing the club face. That’s about as basic as you can get.

If Trackman had gathered different data,they would not hesitate a split second to publish it. Their business to measure and improve on the gathered data.
You suggest they do not out of deference to teaching pros, including Nicklaus himself who endorses this simple effective method.
Nicklaus does not endorse ideas or products that do not meet his high standard.
I’ve used Jack’s method and it works just fine, thank you.
Contradicting data would be out there. I’ve not seen it.

i have seen that vid from steve bann. if u watch closly you c that the club is actually aimed to the right or left of the tree. and even if it was aimed at the tree at ADDRESS, doesnt mean it is at IMPACT. where the face aims at address means little

and tell me why the golf ball goes around the tree and doesn’t fly into the tree, even though the clubface is pointing directly at the tree. Based on what you’re saying the golf ball should hit the tree because the clubface is pointing at it but it doesn’t. Why not?

nicklaus aimed more left or right, or swung more to the left or right to get his draw or fade. tiger may say he does on his demonstrations, but trust me, he doesnt. if he wants a fade he holds the face open. if he wanrs a draw he turns it over. Trackman is the radar used by the PGA and Euro tour. why?? bcos its the most accurate. it says that the ball will start where the face is aimed. im not sayin ur technique cant work it can. but it needs alterations

I’m sure Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods would appreciate knowing that since they’re apparently doing it incorrectly. Maybe they’ll score better as a result. While your at it, ask your physics professor to validate your theory.

trackman, the most accurate ball tracking system used on the pga tour, has had this data for years. that the ball will start where the face is lookin at impact, not where the path is aimed. they wont publish it as many pros, like the ones you mention teachin it the other way

This technique is taught by Jack Nicklaus in his video “golf my way.” There are many other pga pros who also teach this technique. This isn’t my personal idea.

the ball will start pretty much where-ever the club face is aimed. it will then curve away from the parth, depending on the face to the path

By adjusting the angle of the club face, a fade adds loft to the club and a draw takes loft away. For example, if you’re 165yds out and typically hit the 8 iron, you may want to hit a 7 iron fade. Stick with the 8 iron for a big draw though because the closed clubface and decreased loft will automatically compensate for the added distance of the curved ball flight.

This principle applies for every single golf club. The one thing ro remember is that the clubs with the least loft apply the most sidespin while the most lofted clubs apply the least sidespin. For instance, you can’t fade a club with more loft than about a 7 or 8 iron because when you open the clubface, it has too much loft and no sidespin. A driver is the easiest to fade or draw because it has the least loft. That’s why people tell you to tee off with a 3 wood if you can’t hit straight.

Excellent tip!. I used to draw the ball and even would get compliments on doing that. But I had no clue why I was doing it. Now I know, I must have closed the club face. Cool stuff. I will try to knowingly execute this! Thanks!

What this dude has said is ABSULUTLEY corect. It is straight out of Jack Nickaus’s “golf My Way” It’ve very sold golf fundamentals and their is no disagreeing about it. One point though, if you fade it, add a club because of the distance lost – If you draw it, lessen one club as you will get extra yardage from turning it over. Good video.

I still have a VHS copy my father gave me in 1984, and I must say AGameGolf does a better job of explaining the concept on youtube than the old video did!
